New year, old problems. Maverick Vinales’ face says it all as the Spaniard suffers in testing. Unfortunately, it seems there is nothing doing with the 2018 M1, in that the Yamaha rider appears to have ended up in a tunnel with no way out. In the meantime, Johann Zarco is fighting at the front.
“unfortunately, it’s been a disappointing day, today even more so than yesterday– starts the Spanish – nothing has worked here at Buriram. This is the worst test I’ve had since coming to Yamaha. The bike is very similar to that of SepanG”.
Maverick doesn’t know how to explain it all.
“I really don’t know what to say. We continue to work to the max, we think we have the solution but then in the end it’s the exact opposite – he explains – we’re also trying different paths, but at this point it’s hard to understand what we should do. We’re suffering with all parts of the bike, there is on one area that works better than another”.
Yet Rossi has said that riding the 2018 M1 is easier than with the previous bike.
“All I can say is that I feel 100%, both physically and mentally. Every time I get on the bike, I give it my all, but the results don’t meet our expectations”.
And to think that Vinales was close to the front on Saturday.
“Perhaps that was just the tyres, because this morning the same old problems arose. I think the behavior of the tires is strange too. I’m really sorry, because we’ve tested all the material we had available here in Thailand but there was nothing we could do.
In the meantime, Zarco has shown the factory riders how it’s done.
“I don’t know what to say about that either. I am using the same frame, perhaps the engine and electronics are different. Maybe that’s it. I wouldn’t know”.
Now for the Qatar test.
“Yamaha knows what’s not working, I will continue to give it my all and continue to work. I’d just like to go back to the bike we had in early 2017”.
