Franco Morbidelli has shown difficulties in adapting to the current Yamaha YZR-M1 in MotoGP, showing a drop in results despite promotion to the factory team – this after even being runner-up in 2020 in the satellite Petronas Yamaha SRT (current WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP ).
One of the aspects that changed for Morbidelli was the crew chief – who is no longer Ramon Forcada and is now Patrick Primmer. Asked at a press conference whether this was a coincidence or whether the return of Forcada could be considered, the Yamaha team director – Massimo Meregalli – said in a press conference:
– I don’t think this is the problem that isn’t putting Franky in the situation we’d all like him to be. He is satisfied with the working group and we also have strong confidence in Patrick Primmer’s ability. In my opinion, although he was a Yamaha rider in 2020, he has now moved to a bike that is different from the 2020 and is sometimes trying to get the same feeling. But we tried to tell him that the 2022 bike has different characteristics. We are working to make him comfortable on the bike with what we have, and I think the people we have are very good.
