Unlike some of its rivals in MotoGP, Aprilia remains faithful to four-cylinder engines in the V4 layout – an architecture also followed by Ducati, Honda and KTM. And this is something that is here to stay, according to Aleix Espargaró.
Asked by the press about the matter, the Spaniard said that a possibke abandonment of the V4 isn’t on the table. He quoted historical reasons at the Noale factory, but also the fact that starting a blank sheets also means several difficulties:
– It is the history of the motorcycle. I remember two or three weeks ago when I went to Noale, I asked the engineers several questions about our rivals’ engines. But for engineers who have this history it is very difficult to change it completely. It’s hard enough to improve what we have, gain some power… imagine starting from scratch. It’s not a possibility.
