Everything was back to normal, with Fabio Quartararo finishing the second day of testing in front of everyone else in Losail. The Frenchman did not lose his magic touch over one lap, but that was not the point on which he focussed the most.
“Today was a very positive day – he said – I worked a lot on the pace and did some set-up and electronics tests and everything went well. I felt better than yesterday on the M1 and there is another day to go to make more progress.”
And prepare in detail for the first Grand Prix…
“I’m not quite ready yet because there are a lot of things to learn about the new bike – Hey underlined – In the end I’ve only used it for a few days, and I hope to get to know it better tomorrow. So, although I don’t feel ready, I’m quite strong, and with another day of testing it will be all right”.
Morbidelli: “Choosing the right tire for the race will be essential”
There is also optimism on the other side of the Petronas garage. Franco Morbidelli set fourth-quickest time of the day and he also worked a lot in view of the race.
“It was a positive day, better than yesterday, I was fast and I was able to keep up a very good pace with the medium tires – he said – I also tried the others, the soft is very similar to the medium, which I prefer, so it will be necessary to make the right choice because the other Yamaha riders were very fast with the soft. I have good sensations with the M1, it hasn’t changed much compared to last year and I am trying to evaluate the carbon swingarm better”.
The Brazilian from Tavullia is the only Yamaha rider not on a 100% factory bike, but that doesn’t bother him.
“It is a situation that is not causing me any problems – he underlined – it is normal that the two factory riders have a more advanced bike than mine, while Fabio was a special case; because of the results he did last year and the contract he has signed, he has fully deserved this update. As for me, the package I have is very good, especially when cornering, so I will have to make the difference in that area. I don’t think it will be possible for me to have an M1 like theirs this year.”
