Yesterday he was out front, today saw him playing catch-up. A bittersweet Saturday for Maverick Vinales, who will line up in sixth place on tomorrow’s grid. A performance not exactly in line with the M1 rider’s expectations.
“Today I struggled with braking with the medium tyre, considering the high temperatures. Despite that, we have a lot of information that we can use to work on the electronics ahead of the race. i expect a long and difficult race, a lot will depend on rear tire behavior. Right now, I see six riders who can fight for the win, I feel strong and think we can achieve a good result”.
Maverick explains what happened today.
“unfortunately we lost some time with the set-up, the problem is we made several changes to the M1, too many perhaps. So, we need to see what to do tomorrow. I hope Yamaha can give me the weapon I need to run up front and battle with the other riders”.
Vinales is not looking for excuses though.
“Today wasn’t easy, definitely tougher than yesterday in that we weren’t able to improve. I was fast in both sessions yesterday, and have good confidence through every sector. Today I tried to work in preparation for the race. Starting from sixth is good anyway, and I’ll do be best to get to the front”.
What can we expect in the race?
“The first part will be decisive I think, I’ll try to be aggressive and attack right from the first corners with the aim of finding the same sensations as yesterday. It will be an interesting race, as there are many riders who can fight for the win”.
