Losail was a tricolor Sunday, with the Italian riders commanding all three classes. First Migno, then Vietti in the Moto2 and, finally, the icing on the cake with Enea Bastianini’s top times in the MotoGP.
The rider from Piedmont was more than victorious. He proved to be truly dominant, from the first to the last lap, leaving his opponents in the dust.
“I’m obviously excited about this victory,” he commented. “I didn’t expect to get the pole, much less win like this. In fact, I didn’t think I could pull away after the first few laps. I certainly thank the team, because they worked a lot, especially in managing the soft tire, while conveying calmness and serenity, especially after the tests.”
Yet Celestino’s victory wasn’t that predictable.
“Towards the middle of the race, I made two mistakes and, at that moment, I began to think I had to go up against Canet. But I managed to get back on my pace, reaching the finish line and winning. It was great seeing all the guys at the wall celebrating after that last corner.”
Despite his success, Vietti keeps his feet firmly anchored to the ground.
“We’re progressing, but we haven’t done anything yet, since it’s only the first race. In 2021 we had improved, but we can’t stop here. Canet didn’t catch up in the race, but maybe we’ll be the ones having to chase him in the next GP.”
There was also a dedication for a result that will remain forever imprinted in his mind.
“I dedicate this race to all the people who are by my side, especially those who have never left me alone in difficult times. A special mention to my family, friends, and team. My father and uncle were here in Qatar.”
His focus is now on Indonesia.
“We can’t take anything for granted, since we’ve worked well, and we can be fast, but I’m convinced that, in the upcoming races, we’ll see Ogura, Fernandez, and Canet competitive, so we cannot at all lower our guard.”
