Mooney VR46’s Luca Marini joined the factory Ducati riders at the top of the Sachsenring standings on Friday.
Pleased with his performance as he split Pecco Bagnaia and Jack Miller for second with his 1’20.133 effort – a lap under the previous record set by Marc Marquez in 2019 – Marini has more to come as he intends to fully understand the Michelin options in Saturday’s FP4.
“Really great day for me and for all Ducati riders,” the Italian confirmed. “I think that our bike here is working well.
“We need to understand well the tires, I think that today we did a good job but I hope that tomorrow we can improve a little bit because with the hard tires I wasn’t so fast like Pecco. He was really strong.
“I felt not enough grip for make the bike turn with the hard tires but the problem is clear so we try to solve it tomorrow, especially in FP4.
“Tomorrow morning will be difficult and the only important thing is the time attack to entry in Q2 directly, because now is one of the most important things in MotoGP.”
