In Sunday’s 2022 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship races, former MotoAmerica Superbike rider and current GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team rider Garrett Gerloff had a mixed bag of results at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”.
In the morning’s Superpole Race, Gerloff got off the line well and gained some valuable positions on the opening lap. The Texan’s ninth-place result gave him a third-row start for the afternoon’s Race 2.
In Race 2, the rider of the #31 Yamaha YZF-R1 once again made progress on the first lap. Unfortunately, however, his opportunity to collect important Championship points came to an end on lap three, as the 26-year-old fell while fighting inside the top 10.
“Today started off really well,” Gerloff said. “I felt confident and fast. For the Superpole Race, I had a decent start and was in the group fighting for a top-five finish. Then, I felt confident in the second race, but it ended with me crashing in the last corner (on lap three). The data confirmed that we’d done everything the same as the previous laps, so it’s frustrating, but it happens. I’m sorry for the team, I wanted a good result for them, but we’ll try to just reset and have a good weekend in Donington after the break.”
Gerloff and his GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team will be back in action in five weeks for round five of the WorldSBK season, which will be at Donington Park on July 15 through 17.
