“I don’t give a damn about those who criticize me, ” Joan Mir doesn’t mince words to respond to his critics. The Spanish rider didn’t have an easy season. He started with the #1 on the fairing, but defending it proved to be an impossible undertaking. The GSX-RR didn’t turn out to be up to the competition and Mir, while giving his best, did not get beyond a 3rd place in the Championship and was never in the fight for the title.
“I put enormous pressure on myself,” he admitted to AS. But, unfortunately, his efforts didn’t pay off. On the other hand, Joan is convinced that there’s nothing he has to blame himself for.
“I sleep well because I couldn’t have done any better,” he stated. “If anyone says it was the worst title defended in history, that’s okay. You have to experience the situation in its entirety to understand it and know more things before making certain comments. I don’t give a damn about those people.”
Mir continues on his own path, with the aim of returning to being a pretender for the title. “After what we’ve been through, we’ll be stronger because we’ve learned a lot about how difficult it is to win in the MotoGP. We need to do more,” was his final comment.
