Appropriately named Australian rider Luke Power, who races for 3D Motorsports LLC, will be aboard a Suzuki GSX-R750 in MotoAmerica Supersport beginning this weekend at Road America. 3D Motorsports team owner Dustin Dominguez confirmed on Thursday that they have acquired the electronic throttle assembly from Team Hammer, and it is installed on Power’s number 68 Suzuki GSX-R750, making the three-quarter-liter machine legal for entry under the AMA/FIM’s “Supersport Next Generation” rules.
In addition to Power, Dirty T Race Team’s Jordan Tropkoff will also be aboard a Suzuki GSX-R750 for his very first Supersport race weekend in the MotoAmerica series. Tropkoff and his family-owned team were one of the first ones to order the electronic throttle assembly from Team Hammer.
3D Motorsports and the Dirty T Race Team join Altus Motorsports and Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki in fielding Suzuki’s venerable, yet Team-Hammer-updated, 750 sportbike in MotoAmerica’s middleweight class. Sam Lochoff was the first rider anywhere in the world to race the GSX-R750 in Supersport when he debuted the bike at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
At VIRginia International Raceway two weekends ago, three more riders competed aboard Suzuki 750s, including Tyler Scott and Liam Grant from Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki, as well as Jaret Nassaney from Altus Motorsports. Of the quartet, including Lochoff, it was Scott who had the best results in each race at VIR. The 16-year-old was second in race one and third in race two, giving him two podium finishes in his first-ever race weekend on the GSX-R750.
So, pay extra-special attention to the Supersport class this weekend at Road America. Six GSX-R750-mounted riders will be in the fight against Championship leader Josh Herrin aboard his Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati NYC Panigale V2, four Kawasaki ZX-6R 636s, a screaming horde of 15 Yamaha YZF-R6s, and a trio of Suzuki GSX-R600s. That’s 28 bikes, for those of you keeping track at home.
