Valentino Rossi’s team will be a reality in 2022, the next season when the Italian will retire from the track. However, contrary to past expectations, VR46 will be more likely to compete with Ducati motorcycles than with Yamaha.
When asked about the decision, Massimo Meregalli doubts whether the decision for the VR46 riders to drive Ducati was made by Valentino Rossi. Monster Energy Yamaha’s MotoGP team director, however, claims the Iwata factory does not have the capacity to have more than four motorcycles on the track.
“I’m not sure if he was the one who made that decision. In any case, we had no reason not to trust the Razlan Razali team, who, not to forget, gave us a lot. Our problem is that we can no longer provide bicycles. We don’t have the structure like Ducati, which will have eight riders next year. In my opinion, this can also lead to complications, ”Meregalli told GP Racing.
