Despite avoiding precise targets, Maverick Vinales is confident that he will be “much closer” to the front during his second MotoGP weekend as an Aprilia rider at Misano.

Vinales has not only had a full race weekend at Aragon, where he finished 18th and 27th in his RS-GP race debut.
“I think we will definitely get a lot closer at Misano because I have some experience with the bike,” said Vinales on Thursday. “I had time to think, analyze and work, especially from one weekend to the next. So every weekend I think [we will be] rise and that is the most important thing.
“But it looks like the weekend is going to be very fun, rain, sun, rain, sun! We will see. We have to be ready and the most important thing is that we have to try different things.

“I am curious to continue the learning process and I am ready to do a lot more things than in Aragon because I think in Aragon we were conservative and tried to adapt.
“But here in Misano, where I’ve already done laps, I understand the route [with this bike] so that we can try a little more and penetrate into different areas.

“It makes no sense, [say] Now that we need to get to that position. Right now we need to learn to stay calm and try different things. And maybe one out of ten things will work, that’s the job! So we have to keep working.
“In Aragon we lost everything when braking and it is clear that I have to trust the bike, the front. We need laps. It doesn’t just take ten laps. That’s the process.”
While Vinales is still in the early stages of the RS-GP, the experienced team-mate Aleix Espargaro is enjoying the best form of his career with 3-4 results in the last two rounds after his separation from Yamaha in the middle of the season.
“Absolutely! He rides fantastic,” said Vinales. “You can see and I can see he has a lot of faith in the bike. He is in a sweet moment. If you are in a sweet moment, so be it and he rides a fantastic bike. So he has all the honor of it is clear.”
