Honda and the tireless work of developing solutions for all four drivers

Honda has worked hard to bring the RC213V back to the top of the overall standings. This 2021 season will not be easy for the Japanese manufacturer, who has only one podium after Marc Márquez’s victory in Germany this year. This success took place under slightly different conditions, because the Sachsenring is one of the few on the calendar that drives counterclockwise, which means there are more left turns than left turns. On the right side. This detail meant that Marc Márquez had to put less effort into achieving better or equal performance.

To circumvent the situation, Honda has already tested four chassis and five different aerodynamic packages this year alone. The purpose of so much work is to make driving easier for all four drivers after the # 93 was virtually missing from the entire 2020 championship, which revealed the brand’s reliance on success on it.

This work on the chassis was not only carried out in a test environment. In fact, one of the chassis that the team had tested before the start of the championship was used again at Assen by Marc Márquez and Pol Espargaró, on a weekend when the two drivers finished the race in seventh and ninth respectively. However, this chassis that was used at the last GP is nothing new to the drivers as, according to paddock-gp.com, it is the same chassis that managed to get Álex Márquez on the podiums in Le Mans and Aragon in 2020 place, as well as the pole position for Takaaki Nakagami at the GP of Teruel.

After the accidents of A. Márquez and Nakagami in Losail, Honda decided to do something about it. To solve some of the problems, the manufacturer provided a chassis 2021 that was different from the previous season. For the first four or five races, the two LCR Honda riders used the 2020 and 2021 versions, with the impression that despite continued efforts to make the bike a little more competitive, Honda still didn’t know where to go.

Another point that has been worked on is the engine. For example, it’s no secret that Suzuki tested the 2022 engine in pre-season tests in Qatar. While Honda has not gone into great detail, there is no guarantee that the work that has been done on the chassis will be listed as the “heart” of the RCV213V for next year. In addition, five different aerodynamic packages have been tested in Jerez alone, demonstrating the plant’s concern that its drivers will return to the top.

With so much work and test points, it wouldn’t be surprising that Honda is looking forward to next year. Marc Márquez will probably have recovered from his injury by 2022 and Pol Espargaró has already added many kilometers for a year, and Álex Márquez and Takaaki Nakagami are also helping with the development of the bike. In a season when podiums are not a reality, except at the Sachsenring, working with the future in mind is a method that can lead to decent results.
