MotoGP: Crutchlow drives Monster Energy Yamaha at Silverstone – Roadracing World Magazine

MONSTER ENERGY YAMAHA MOTOGP TACKLE BRITISH GP WITH NEW LINE-UP

Silverstone (UK), August 25, 2021

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team is looking forward to being back on track at the Monster Energy British Grand Prix this weekend. Fittingly, Cal Crutchlow will take part in his home GP on a works Yamaha in the pit lane for the first time with Fabio Quartararo.

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team is going full steam ahead for this challenge of the 12th round of the MotoGP World Championship 2021. Both championship leader Fabio Quartararo and reserve driver Cal Crutchlow love the Silverstone Circuit and want to live up to this opportunity, especially since the Monster Energy British Grand Prix shares the team’s title sponsor.

Quartararo comes to the UK and takes first place in the championship standings by 47 points over his closest rivals. The expansion of his lead after the two races in Austria gives the Yamaha man some breathing space, but he shows no signs of slowing down.

The Frenchman is full of energy and is aiming for a British GP top 3 place. Having never stood on the podium at Silverstone before, he would love nothing more than to do just that this weekend when Monster Energy is sponsoring the event for the first time.

Cal Crutchlow looks forward to boarding the 2021 Factory YZR-M1 again. The Yamaha Factory Racing Test Team rider follows his two GPs as part of PETRONAS Yamaha SRT (replaces the injured Franco Morbidelli) with a lap with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team.

The Brit knows the Silverstone circuit like the back of his hand and was second on the podium in the Premier Class in 2016. This experience will be useful to him as he sets out this weekend to help the team and Yamaha collect important data and support their bid for the team and constructors’ championship.

Silverstone was added to the MotoGP calendar in 2010 but has over sixty years of racing history. Thanks to innovations and investments, the route became one of the fastest routes on the calendar and received great praise from the drivers. There was no race in the UK in 2020 due to the global pandemic. Those who want to remember the layout of the track can do so by watching Lorenzo Daretti (Trastevere73) and Michael Amara (Vindex182) the friendly MotoGP eSport race.

Since Silverstone is in a different time zone, the schedule for the British GP differs slightly from the usual Grand Prix schedule for Central Europe. The FP1 and FP2 sessions will take place on Friday from 9:55 a.m. – 10:40 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. – 2:55 p.m. local time (GMT + 1). On Saturday, FP3 takes place from 9:55 a.m. to 10:40 a.m., followed by FP4, Q1 and Q2 in the afternoon at 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., 2:10 p.m. to 2:25 p.m. and 2:35 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. On Sunday, the warm-up takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. and the race is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

MASSIMO MEREGALLI

TEAM DIRECTOR

We didn’t get the chance to race at Silverstone last year so we’re glad we can go there this season. In addition, the UK round is even more special this year for our team as we share the same title sponsor with the event and are therefore determined to get top results. We will do a lot of hard work and we are happy that Cal can strengthen our team in this round. We will be receiving additional data from someone who knows Silverstone like no other. Our goal is to get the best possible results every weekend and, as always, we will go 100% for that.

FABIO QUARTARARO

I’m starting the British GP with a very positive mood. We extended our championship lead after Spielberg and Silverstone is a track that I really love. We took a big step in terms of performance in 2019. I think this race will be good if the conditions are good. If it rains we have to see, but we will definitely do our best. My goal is to fight for victory, firstly because this is one of my favorite tracks and secondly because it is an important GP for the team.

CAL KRUTCHLOW

I’m excited to be racing for Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP in the British Grand Prix. It was nice to be back in Austria after a long break, so I’m now looking forward to driving for the Factory Team and working with my Test Team Crew Chief Silvano Galbusera and all the team members I know well.
