One look at his face is enough to understand that something did not go according to plan. It was a bitter Misano for Andrea Dovizioso, who had to console himself with thirteenth place, more than 40 seconds behind Marc Marquez’s Honda. The expectations of the man from Forl at his home race were different, but unfortunately the Petronas driver struggled with his M1 without finding the right path.
“To be honest, I didn’t understand a lot in this race – he started – from the beginning I lacked the right self-confidence on the bike, actually I was struggling. However, I consider it to be an important race for experience in the future. “
Andrea explained the difficulties encountered on the Riviera route.
“At the beginning of the race I didn’t have any speed and needed more traction. I couldn’t be as smooth as I wanted either, in fact I struggled with the M1 to find the right feeling in the saddle. I’m really disappointed with this weekend: On the one hand, the weather conditions put a strain on me, on the other hand, after Austin I couldn’t take the step forward that I wanted.
The Forlì driver then went into more detail about the problems he had compared to Quartararo.
“On tracks like this, where you need to accelerate out of slow corners, you have a hard time if you don’t drive like Quartararo. Fabio makes the difference when it comes to braking, even if it’s true that our bike is different from his. Unfortunately, when I came into the corner here at Misano, I wasn’t the right speed and I even lost time.
While Dovi had to lick his wounds, Fabio Quartararo celebrated his first MotoGP title at Misano …
“I’m happy for him, I think he did something really amazing this 2021 season and the title is well deserved. Fabio worked well in the tests and also masked all the limitations that the Yamaha encountered. He was consistent because, thanks to his style, he proved to be quick in any situation. You can indeed see that: he brakes late and can turn the wheel quickly. He has the merit of making a complicated thing easy ”.
Finally, Andrea was asked if there was anything to fear for the future or not …
“No, don’t worry, because the 2022 World Cup doesn’t start tomorrow. If it started tomorrow, I would have given the opposite answer. What I can say is that we still have time to work, grow and improve considering that I’ll have a different bike next year. “
