Xavi Vierge would have refused to work with Yamaha SRT. to compete in the MotoGP GP of Aragon

Petronas Yamaha SRT faces a difficult period in the MotoGP season when it comes to managing their riders. Franco Morbidelli will be absent from the Aragon GP due to injury, while Monster Energy Yamaha will also need a replacement rider following the sacking of Maverick Viñales.

At the British GP, Cal Crutchlow stepped down as a temporary replacement in the SRT to join the Yamaha senior team, while Jake Dixon took the place alongside Valentino Rossi. The Malaysian team’s idea for the Aragon GP was to have their other Moto2 rider, Xavi Vierge, in action.

However, according to the Motorsport.com website, the Spaniard would have turned down this option. That’s because Vierge will be convinced that it could be a race with more potential risks than possible benefits, at a time when he doesn’t even seem to have a chance to advance to MotoGP next year.

With Crutchlow again an option for Monster Energy Yamaha in Aragon – before Morbidelli returns straight to the factory team after his injury – Dixon has the way open for a second MotoGP round. It is worth remembering that from Misano, Andrea Dovizioso will take his place alongside Rossi, as confirmed by Yamaha director Lin Jarvis.
