Qualifying live results, live timing

Australian Jack Miller suffered a terrible fall in fourth free practice at the HJC Helmets Grand Prix de France, round 5 of the 2017 MotoGP World Championship.

Miller came out of the first corner of Le Mans when he wanted to win against two rival drivers on Saturday.

The Estrella Galicia rider skillfully leaned into the corner before getting ready to switch sides for the second side, hoping to overtake the bikes in front.

But when he straightened up, Miller lost control – his bike rode off the track towards the crowd.

At breakneck speed, the wheel shoots forward across the grass before it hits the barricade and throws Miller into the air like a rag doll.

Miller falls head over heels and lands next to his smashed bike.

“I don’t even want to talk about it,” says one shocked commentator.

“Look at this. How lucky is Jack Miller?”

Meanwhile, the Spaniard Maverick Vinales ensured a Yamaha lockout at the top of the grid in qualifying after he had pushed World Championship leader Valentino Rossi to pole position.

Italian veterans Rossi and Vinales, 22, are trying to regain control of their title fate after their form fell apart at the start of the season last time in Spain.

38-year-old Rossi leads the championship with 62 points after four laps, while Vinales is just in second place after the first two races in Qatar and Argentina.

Frenchman Johann Zarco will start the race in third on Sunday to complete a Yamaha hat trick in the front row.

Reigning World Champion Marc Marquez from Spain is in the second row after qualifying as fifth fastest on his Honda.

Miller qualified for 11th place.
