Ducati was the strongest machine on the first day of training in Aragón, Jack Miller the fastest rider on the track. Aleix Espargaró and Cal Crutchlow completed an unusual top 3, with the Desmosedici by Johann Zarco and Jorge Martín also among the top 5.
This is how FP2 began on the Spanish circuit:
Marc Márquez and ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia were the two fastest at the beginning of the session, closely followed by Miguel Oliveira in third place. The Spanish Repsol Honda rider lost control of his machine at Turn 16 while chasing his brother Alex and was visibly angry at the end:
With 30 minutes to go, Takaaki Nakagami proved the Honda’s good progress on this track and jumped to provisional second place on the time table. ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia was the gentleman who followed the crash at turn five without gravity:
Takaaki Nakagami was the fastest driver in FP2, he was seconded by M; iguel Oliveira. Marc Marquez was still the fastest time of the day in FP1 (-0.526s).
Maverick Viñales suffered a shock at his RS-GP:
In the last five minutes, the grid went through a number of quickest changes. First, it was Aleix Espargaró who pushed his way to the top, who was beaten early by Iker Lecuona. Cal Crutchlow drove a great lap that put him straight into second place. But the table didn’t stay the same for more than a few seconds. Aleix Espargaró moved up to second after Jack Miller was the new leader.
The final laps came with Miller at the top of FP2, followed by A. Espargaró, Crutchlow, Johann Zarco and Jorge Martín, with the Ducati taking three places in the top five. This left the session with Miguel Oliveira in 17th place and Maverick Viñales in 19th place:
