When it came to the red flag, it was Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia who led the field ahead of Pramac poleman Jorge Martin.
The race will restart over 26 laps and the starting order will be the same as the original start, with Martin on pole from Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo.
This is the third MotoGP race in a row at the Red Bull Ring to be interrupted after serious incidents.
The 2020 Austrian GP was canceled with the red flag after a terrible collision between Franco Morbidelli and Johann Zarco, in which both motorcycles almost hit Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi.
At the Styrian GP the following week, a brake failure for Maverick Vinales at Turn 1 forced him to jump at 140 mph, causing his Yamaha to crash into the air fence and go up in flames.
