Since returning to the MotoGP World Championship in 2016, Ducati has won the Austrian Grand Prix on all five occasions, with only Miguel Oliveira winning a race at the Red Bull Ring (Grand Prix Steiermark 2020) as a non-Ducati rider.
And with Ducati’s steadily improving straight-ahead speed – which KTM only achieved temporarily in 2021 – the rookies Bastianini and Marini enjoy the chance to use a “perfectly suited” Ducati to “get closer to the leaders”.
Bastianini said: “We’re coming to Austria, a track that I really like. I don’t know how MotoGP will be, but I’m full of energy.

“During the break I tried to relax, but also to stay fit, because MotoGP is a very complicated category and I want to adapt immediately.
“The Ducati is a bike that fits this track perfectly and has worked really well over the past few years, so we’ll do our best to get the best possible result.”

Bastianini’s best result of the season so far was a ninth place in Portimao (race three), while Marini has yet to crack the top ten in a race.
Nevertheless, last year’s Moto2 runner-up sees both races in Spielberg as an opportunity to collect valuable points.
Marini added: “I’m excited to be racing again, it’s been a long summer break. I can’t wait to get back to work and get back on my bike.
“We arrive in Austria, a very special route with few corners and which I like. Ducati has always done well here and our goal is to get closer to the top and score points.
“We’re going to do two races in a row on this track and I’m sure the gap will be even smaller in week two, which is another reason to work well from the first GP on.”
