Heartbreak for Alex Marquez, who couldn’t finish his first race of the year in the hunt for a third podium, Stefan Bradl lands in the points for the second time in 2020.
Sunday at the Teruel GP began with celebrations when Honda scored its 800th Grand Prix victory in the Moto3 race thanks to Jaume Masia. The young Spaniard, who became Honda’s 100th race winner last week, drove an inch-perfect drive to write another page in Honda’s Grand Prix history.
Alex Marquez made a stable start into the second race in Aragon and avoided several incidents in front of him when his hard front tire got temperature. With a lap time of 1’48, the chase continued as the MotoGP rookie made his way through the field. Johann Zarco resisted briefly, but the RC213V soon found its way as the podium emerged. Alex was working hard to catch up with Mir when he lost the lead on Turn 2 and ended his race on lap 14. While the end was bitterly disappointing, Alex once again showed incredible pace and potential as he made his way through the field.
From the line, Stefan Bradl tore himself forward from his best qualifying of the year and found himself in the points within a few corners. After Bradl had shown stronger pace on the second weekend at MotorLand Aragon, he was able to fight hard for points with people like Lecuona and Petrucci. Andrea Dovizioso fell back into the clutches of Bradl late in the race, and the German pushed to the end to overtake him. In the penultimate lap, the German passed in twelfth place.
The final sprint of the 2020 MotoGP World Championship will continue on November 6th on the Valencia circuit and the last triple header of the year will be initiated. It seems to be an intense end of 2020, the MotoGP World Championship is still wide open.
