The second day of the official MotoGP tests on the Losail track also ended with excellent sensations. Once again Johann Zarco finished sixth about four tenths of a second from the lead and continued uninterrupted work on the Pramac Racing Team’s Ducati. Together with the Tuscan team, the French decided to take various steps from both a racing and a development perspective in the first phase of the session, in order to then leave room for a qualifying simulation in the last part.
“Today we chose a different strategy and did a lot of laps in the afternoon – he revealed – and we managed to get good results under both conditions. As evening fell we focused on the time attack front but I am not satisfied with the time gained. I’ve made a few mistakes but the potential to do well is there and Miller showed it. “
The two-time Moto2 world champion carried out several back-to-back tests to refine his feel with the Desmosedici. At the same time, he also focused on the kind of blends that Michelin brought to Qatar, a step more difficult than in the past.
“We try to understand how I can best adapt the bike to my riding style. In total it was two positive sessions, I think we will continue to improve in the next trips. We still have to find the right compromise with the tires, the grip was bad and for this reason we mainly used the soft solution. Without a doubt, conditions will be better in three weeks so I’m not worried about the range of tires that are available to us. “
From a technical point of view, Johann Zarco had the opportunity to test the functionality of the new “Holeshot” system from Borgo Panigale (which also lowers the front) on the grid.
“I think it’s really interesting. Sure, lowering the bike gives you the opportunity to bring more power to the ground. Martin: “Despite the crash, nothing to fear”
On the other side of the Pramac Racing Team Box, Rookie Jorge Martin experienced a day with two faces. Positive progress on the chronometric side was contrasted by another crash, the second over the three test sessions. Despite this setback, the Spaniard continued his adaptation to the Ducati.
“I started with confidence after taking a few steps forward the day before. Unfortunately, I crashed again towards the middle of the session, but there is nothing to worry about. In any case, I’m happy. We did a lot of laps with used tires, I improved every time and that’s really important. “
Jorge Martin only regretted that he couldn’t make a direct comparison with any of his rivals. In the end he was in 19th place just under two seconds behind Jack Miller.
“As happened yesterday, I unfortunately couldn’t find a fast driver on the track. In the end we put on the soft tire, which meant that I set my personal best by a second. I can’t wait to hit the track for the next tests, I’m sure we will make further progress. “
